A Wedding Gift

We have some friends getting married soon and the soon to be groom is a territory manager for a nation wide wine distributor. I thought a nice wine rack would be an appropriate gift for their wedding and the new home they just bought. The project turned out to be much more complicated than I originally thought. The basic dimensions of the rack are 6' 6" tall, 15" wide & 15" deep. There are 5 shelves each holds 3 bottles of wine. Here are a few pictures from the build & assembly. The first picture is detailing the tongue & groove for the slats that make up the shelves. Figuring a bottle wouldn't just sit on a flat shelf I had to build each shelf with 4 individual slats that the bottles would rest in between.

This next shot is a picture showing 2 key things. First, the height of the wine rack and detail of the frame & panel sides. This is done on the back and both sides. The second thing it shows is what a disaster my shop is right now!

Lastly a closer view of the frame and panel sides. The two outer panels are set back while the center panel is pushed forward. I think it breaks up the design and adds a little depth.

I'll hopefully have more pictures up after the weekend. All the pieces have been sanded through 120 grit but I was just doing a dry fit to make sure everything was sitting flush & there were no surprises. Stay tuned...
